President Donald Trump issued new rules on Tuesday enforcing existing immigration laws that are already on the books.
Trump directed the Dept. of Homeland Security to enforce sweeping guidelines to speed up deportation of undocumented immigrants who commit violent crimes.
In documents released by DHS on Tuesday, Trump directed his administration to hire 10,000 more U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers to help identify and round up and deport illegal immigrants who commit crimes.
The new rules will allow ICE to enlist local police to round up “criminal aliens” who commit violent crimes; speed up deportations of at least 1 million criminals who have deportation orders but are still here; and strip immigrants of privacy rights.
The department’s new policies expanded the definition of “criminal aliens” and frees the hands of border agents who were handcuffed by the prior administration.
