Lawmaker call on New York City to Hold Bodega Accountable For Bronx Teen's Death

Lawmakers Call On New York City To Hold Bodega Accountable For Bronx Teen's Death - blogged by Sincere Jones⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The violent murder of 15-year-old Bronx resident Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz has prompted local lawmakers to take action against the bodega where the teen was murdered outside by alleged gang members.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This week, Councilman Ritchie Torres issued a statement to New York City’s Department of Consumer Affairs expressing his outrage over the negligence of Cruz & Chilky Grocery and its owner’s inaction by not calling 9-1-1 while Junior was dragged out of the store⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀An owner who stands by idly while a 15-year-old is dragged out of his store and murdered in cold blood with a machete is no longer worthy of doing business in NYC, Torres wrote in the statement. While it might be unfair to expect a business owner, untrained in the law enforcement, to perform heroics in the midst of savage gang violence, the failure to do something as basic as calling 911 is morally unconscionable.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Unaided by the store owner, Lesandro ‘Junior’ Guzman-Feliz, an innocent child, was left to fend for himself, bleeding to death after a heinous gang attack,” he added. The Councilman went on to urge the Department of Consumer Affairs to hold Cruz & Chilky Grocery accountable for the late teen’s death by issuing a revocation of its business license. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀As the local Council Members, we feel deeply the publics outage and urge DCA to hold Cruz & Chiky Grocery accountable for failing to demonstrate - in a moment when the life of an innocent child was at stake the good moral character required by law.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On Thursday, Councilman Torres also launched the Care Cafe initiative, in partnership with Yeshiva University, which will provide grieving residents impacted by gang violence with assistance from mental health professionals and trauma experts.

Serena Williams withdraws from French Open clash with arch-rival Maria Sharapova

Breaking! Serena Williams withdraws from French Open clash with arch-rival Maria Sharapova

Tennis champion, Serena Williams has pulled out of the French Open before her fourth-round match with arch-rival Maria Sharapova due to an injury.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner who had recently returned to tennis after giving birth to her first child, called a press conference today to talk about her decision, with reports in France claiming it could be an arm problem.
"I've had issues with the right pectoral muscle to the point where I can't serve," said the 36-year-old.
"The first time I felt it was against Goerges in my last match. I was like, oh my. It was really painful, and I didn’t know what it was. In my doubles I tried a lot of different tapings and different types of support to see how it would feel under match circumstance, and it didn’t get a lot better.
I’m going to stay here and see as many specialists as I can. There’s a lot of theories. I’ve never had this before. I’ve never felt this in my life, this is so painful. So I don’t really know how to manage it yet. When you do have an injury you’ve had before you can kind of manage it, but this is a little different. I’m clueless as to what to do. So I’m just going to do what the doctors think I should do, and get all the evaluations on it.
"I'll have a scan. I won't know about Wimbledon until I get the results."

The former World's No 1 who has fallen to 453rd in the world ranking, after taking time out to have a baby was aiming at fighting her way back to the top.
