Take a
look at any “one’s to watch” list from last year, and it’s almost certain that Chance The Rapper would
have featured.
Waving
the flag for the independent movement, the mass appealing Hip-Hop talent has
caught the eyes and ears of the recording buying public who helped lift his ‘Coloring Book’ project
to #1 via on streams alone.
Naturally with any such ascend, the spotlight isn’t limited to the
artist alone. Their family are trust in to the spotlight.
It’s widely known that Chance’s father is a prominent Chicago
based politician.
Now, it’s his younger brother who has folk talking – after he came
out on Twitter today.
Full story below…
Taylor Bennett, who is
also a rap artist, took to social media to reveal that he is bisexual.
The 20-year-old Chicago rapper tweeted:
“My birthday is tomorrow and moving into next year I’d like to be more open about myself to help others that struggle with the same issues Growing up I’ve always felt indifferent about my sexuality and being attracted to one sex and today I would like to openly come out to my fans. I do recognize myself as a bisexual male and I do and have always openly supported the gay community and will keep doing so in 2017.”
While the
story will inevitably (and understandably) center on the tie to his older
brother, the real narrative here is that an active Black rapper (with a movement
+ momentum of his own) has shared his truth.
On the
one hand it’s ultimately no one’s business, but – like he said – perhaps it’ll
help someone. Kudos to him.
