Stephen Belafonte has officially responded to Mel B’s divorce filing.
The singer’s now estranged and alleged abusive husband is requesting spousal support and joint custody of their 5-year-old daughter, Madison. According to Stephen, the pair separated on March 1 despite Mel’s claims that date of separation was December 28.
Earlier this week, the singer was granted a restraining order against the film producer after making a string of serious allegations. According to the mother of three, Belafonte was physically abusive throughout their ten year marriage.
Over the course of their troubled relationship, Mel also claims Stephen allegedly sexually exploited her and even knocked up their German nanny.
Belafonte’s lawyers released a statement to the press that read:
“What matters most to Mr. Belafonte is the safety and well-being of his daughters and step-daughters. It’s a shame that Ms. Brown elected not to proceed in a respectful and amicable fashion in this very private matter. In due course, Mr. Belafonte will be filing his response to the outrageous and unfounded allegations made by Ms. Brown, which allegations he vehemently denies.”
Mel has not publicly spoken out since the saga unfolded this week, but her sister, Danielle Brown has. In an angry Instagram post, Danielle blasted Stephen for being a “wife beater,” “criminal” and a “sorry exclusive for a man.”
