Mel B. finally tells all.
Just weeks after filing for divorce from husband, Stephen Belafonte, the former Spice Girls singer is unveiling new secrets behind her abusive marriage. The question is: Was it really a secret?
TMZ first broke the story; Mel filed a restraining order on Monday, requesting Stephen stay away from her children and retreat from the family home. In the court documents, Mel also revealed what really happened behind closed doors — the details will literally make you sick.
According to the X Factor judge, Stephen would physically beat her, force her into having sexual relations with other women and, if she did not comply, would threaten to publicly put her on blast.
In the documents, the British singer gave specific dates of when her husband would be the ultimate monster.
Apparently, in November 2007, the night of her Dancing with the Stars finale, she was home getting ready when Stephen “placed both of his hands around her neck, began choking her and slammed her down onto the hardwood floors. She says this was the pattern … when she achieved any measure of success, he would ‘beat me down to let me know he was in charge.'”
In July 2012, Stephen allegedly became irate when Mel had to tape a segment with Usher for the X Factor. A jealous Belafonte not only accused her of flirting and f*cking the singer, but then apparently punched her with a closed fist in the face, splitting her lip.
The documents also chronicled a day in August 2012 after the closing ceremonies of the London Olympics. Apparently, Stephen punched the host with a closed fist and pushed her down on the carpet. After the injury, he then made Mel tweet that it came from wearing high heels. The tweet read: “Running in 7 inch louboutin no good!! I’m wearing prauge on my face!!! (sic)”
Aside from the regular physical abuse, Mel alleges that Stephen also impregnated their nanny and wanted to keep the child. He also wanted all parties involved to live together.
According to Mel, her estranged husband forced her to “participate in sexual intercourse with him and random women.” He would apparently then record the encounters, but if she didn’t comply to having relations again, he would threaten to release the tapes.
Now to the question you’ve probably already asked: Why did she stay? The documents stated that she tried leaving but he “threatened me with violence and threatened to destroy my life in every possible way … destroy my career and take my kids from me.”
Mel’s recounting of her troubled marriage is painful, but it also doesn’t come as a shock.
Back in 2014, the mother of three was rushed to the hospital after suffering severe stomach pains. When the singer returned for the live finale of UK X Factor on Sunday, fans immediately noticed that she not only had scratches and bruises on her body, but that she wasn’t wearing her wedding ring.
Folks instantly started suggesting Mel was in an abusive relationship. But as rumors started to circulate, Stephen did some damage control and tweeted: “I don’t usually respond to Twitter msgs but I will respond to comments of hitting my wife which I think are quite disgusting un true. Mel was very ill a bunch of doctors helped her get better if fans can’t just relax B4 being negative they r not real fans of @OfficialMelB.”
